International Prize Grupo Compostela-Xunta de Galicia

The International Prize Grupo Compostela-Xunta de Galicia was established in 1996 further to the signature of an agreement between the Compostela Group of Universities and at that time the Regional Ministry of Culture, Social Communication and Tourism of Galicia.
This prize is awarded annually to an individual or institution that has stood out due to his work in favour of the European unity and the preservation of the cultural heritage of the Camino de Santiago and its values, which are a symbol and origin of the creation of Europe.
The jury of this international prize has as honorary president the president of the Xunta de Galicia and includes each year three authorities of the Galician government, belonging to the current Regional Ministry of the Xunta de Galicia for Education, Science, Universities and Vocational Training. On the part of the Compostela Group of Universities, this body includes the president and the rectors of three-member universities. Besides, the executive secretary of the CGU acts as the secretary of the jury
The Xunta de Galicia and the member universities of the CGU may present annually candidatures to this prize, which is endowed with a monetary prize of 6,000 euros. The prize-winner receives a golden shell, a symbol of the pilgrimage to Santiago for centuries and of the Compostela Group of Universities since its creation.
