The President of the Compostela Group of Universities (CGU), Carla Martins, accompanied by the Executive Secretary, Teresa Carballeira Rivera, met on Thursday, 11 June 2026, with the Rector of the University of Santiago de Compostela (USC), Rosa Crujeiras, and the Rector’s Delegate for the Internationalisation Strategy, Inmaculada Otero, in an institutional meeting aimed at renewing the network’s alliances with the Galician university.
This was the first official meeting between the CGU President and the new USC Rector, to whom she presented first-hand the progress achieved since her election as President in 2023. Among the topics discussed were also the opportunities for collaboration in the creation of an interinstitutional dialogue platform with Latin America and the Caribbean, as well as new avenues of cooperation linked to the First Programme of Ibero-American Cultural Routes and Itineraries 2027 (PRICI), aimed at the recognition and certification of various cultural and heritage sites in Ibero-America by the Council of Europe—an initiative in which the CGU is actively involved.
The meeting also made it possible to advance in the renewal of the framework cooperation agreement between the CGU and the USC, which regulates the development of academic, cultural and research initiatives, and reaffirms the commitment of both institutions to maintaining effective and reliable communication channels.
The USC is the founding and leading higher education institution of the CGU. It conceived the network in 1994 as an ideal platform for the dynamic promotion of the cultural heritage surrounding the Camino de Santiago, emphasising the humanistic character and collective identity of its members. Since then, the CGU has served as a forum for reflection and research aimed at finding future-oriented solutions, as well as a space for designing new models of talent exchange—objectives that are closely aligned with the new rectoral plan.
