The president of the Compostela Group of Universities (CGU), Carla Martins, professor at the University of Minho (UMINHO), met on Monday, 8 June 2026, with the rector of this member university of the network, Pedro Arezes (2025–2029), with the aim of strengthening collaboration between both institutions and advancing joint initiatives in the academic, cultural and international strategic fields.

The President of the CGU attended the meeting accompanied by the network’s executive secretary, María Teresa Carballeira Rivera. The Vice-rector for Culture, Inclusion and Social Responsibility of UMINHO also took part in the meeting.

Among the topics discussed, special attention was given to academic cooperation projects linked to cultural heritage and to the strategic development of initiatives aligned with the CGU Strategic Plan 2023–2027. The meeting also addressed the renewal of the institutional agreement between UMINHO and the network, with the purpose of facilitating the professor’s participation in CGU activities and in the performance of her duties as president at the international level.

UMINHO is one of the nearly 70 founding universities of the CGU. It joined in 1994 the initiative to create an international university network headquartered at the University of Santiago de Compostela and, since then, its support for the CGU and for the Galician university has been constant and uninterrupted. UMINHO has been part of the CGU General Council and of the Executive Committee in every term, including the current presidency (2023–2027).
