The former president of the International Committee of the Red Cross Peter Maurer during his speech at the award ceremony of the XXVI International Prize Grupo Compostela-Xunta de Galicia, hosted by the University of Fribourg.

The presentation ceremony will take place in September during the XXIX General Assembly of the Compostela Group of Universities. 

The deadline for submitting nominations for the XXVII International Prize Grupo Compostela-Xunta de Galicia is 20 March 2023. According to the regulations for the call, these nominations can be sent by the member universities of the Compostela Group of Universities (CGU), the Xunta de Galicia, members of the jury and the official European institutions.

Those individuals and institutions wishing to submit their proposals must do so using the official form, the template for which can be found in the web section of the award on the CGU website. This form must be accompanied by a complete curriculum vitae of the candidature, as well as the documentation and support deemed necessary. All this must be sent by e-mail with acknowledgement of receipt to the Executive Secretariat of the CGU.

The nominations received will be considered by a jury composed of representatives of the Xunta de Galicia and the Compostela Group of Universities. As in previous editions, this body will be chaired by the president of the Galician government and include three authorities from the Regional Ministry of Culture, Education, Vocational Training and Universities. The CGU will be represented by its president, its executive secretary and three representatives of its member universities.

As for the presentation ceremony, the person or institution awarded in this XXVII edition will receive the golden shell during the XXIX General Assembly of the CGU, which will be organised by the University of Seville from 21 to 22 September 2023.

The establishment of the International Prize Grupo Compostela-Xunta de Galicia

The Compostela Group of Universities and the Regional Ministry of Culture, Social Communication and Tourism of the Xunta de Galicia signed an agreement for the institution of the International Prize Grupo Compostela-Xunta de Galicia in 1996.

Since its first edition in 1997, this award recognises each year an outstanding person or institution for their work in favour of European unity, the preservation of the cultural heritage of the Camino de Santiago and its values, symbol and origin of the creation of the concept of Europe.
