The Executive Secretary of the Compostela Group of Universities (GCU) participated in a preparatory meeting in León to launch a volunteer program in the city, inspired by the GCU’s previous experience in Jaca (Aragón).

The meeting in León brought together representatives from the GCU, the León City Council, the University of León, and the Association of Municipalities of the Camino de Santiago. Participants discussed the foundations for a volunteer program that will enable students and young people to contribute to cultural and educational projects linked to the Camino de Santiago, replicating the successful model previously implemented in Jaca, Aragón.

The initiative reflects the GCU’s commitment to promoting academic volunteering and university cooperation in the European cultural and heritage sphere. Expanding these programs aims to encourage active participation of the university community in heritage preservation while strengthening ties between cities and universities involved in the Camino de Santiago network.
