Golden Pin
The Compostela Group of Universities’ Golden Pin is an expression of appreciation to those individuals that have left their mark on the Compostela Group of Universities. The awarding ceremony of the Golden Pin usually takes place during the general assemblies of the CGU.
Laureates
Darío Villanueva Prieto
Darío Villanueva was awarded the Golden Pin at the dawn of the Compostela Group of Universities network.
Darío Villanueva is a Professor of Literary Theory and Comparative Literature at the University of Santiago de Compostela, where he has been Professor Emeritus since October 2020. He was also rector of the University of Santiago de Compostela and director of the Royal Spanish Academy.
Manuel Freire-Garabal Núñez
Manuel Freire-Garabal Núñez was awarded the Golden Pin in 2004 at the X General Assembly of the Compostela Group of Universities, hosted by the University of Pecs (Hungary).
Manuel Freire-Garabal Núñez is Professor of Pharmacology at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Santiago de Compostela. He had the idea of creating the Compostela Group of Universities, was one of the drivers of its constitution and, for many years, has been an active member of the Executive Committee of the network.
Marc Richelle
Marc Richelle was awarded the Golden Pin in 2009 at the XV General Assembly in Portoroz (Slovenia).
Professor Emeritus, Chair of Experimental Psychology at the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences of the University of Liège (Belgium), Marc Richelle was the first president of the Compostela Group of Universities between 1995 and 1999, and a great promoter of the association.
Michael Cooper
Michael Cooper received this recognition in 2014 at the XX General Assembly of the Compostela Group of Universities, held at the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan (Poland).
Michael Cooper was Director of International Relations at Karlstad University from 1990 to 2007, and previously Professor of English at the same university. President of the Compostela Group of Universities from 1999 to 2007, he led a team that generated great added value to GCU’s activities.
Jean Pierre Roose
The award ceremony for Jean Pierre Roose also took place in the framework of the XX General Assembly, which was held on 25-27 September 2014 at the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan (Poland).
Jean Pierre Roose received the highest expression of recognition from the CGU community because his contribution to the success of the network has always been undeniable, firstly as a member of the Executive Committee and then as a CGU Delegate in Belgium, giving visibility to the network in the European capital.
Isabel Lirola Delgado
Isabel Lirola Delgado was awarded the Golden Pin in 2017 at the XXIII General Assembly of the Compostela Group of Universities, organised by the University of Pecs (Hungría).
Isabel Lirola Delgado is Professor of International and European Law at the Faculty of Law of the University of Santiago de Compostela. The attribution of the Golden Pin came as a sign of appreciation and gratitude for her contribution to the networks’ fruitful development as Executive Secretary between 2012 and 2016.
Maurits van Rooijen
Maurits van Rooijen also received this recognition in 2017 at the XXIII General Assembly of the Compostela Group of Universities, which took place at the University of Pecs (Hungary).
Maurits van Rooijen, founding member and President of the Compostela Group of Universities from 2005 to 2015, was awarded this honour for his commitment and determination to increase the international projection of the CGU.
