The Compostela Group of Universities (GCU) participated in the 14th Annual Advisory Forum on Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe, held from 22 to 24 October 2025 in Cappadocia (Türkiye).
The GCU was specially invited to coordinate the meeting of universities that form part of the network of the European Institute of Cultural Routes, within the framework of this international forum. The session was led by the President of the Group, Carla Martins, who underlined the importance of strengthening academic collaboration around the Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe.
During the meeting, the first steps were taken towards consolidating this university network, and the programme of the second International Conference on Universities and Cultural Routes, to be held in Lugano (Switzerland) in 2026, was presented. The first edition of this conference took place in Santiago de Compostela in November 2024, organised by the GCU.
Furthermore, during the forum it was announced that the European Institute of Cultural Routes, organiser of the event, has been awarded the 2025 Grupo Compostela–Xunta de Galicia Prize in recognition of its contribution to the promotion of European cultural heritage and to fostering cooperation between academic and cultural institutions.
This participation reaffirms the Compostela Group of Universities’ commitment to the promotion of European cultural heritage and to international academic cooperation within the framework of the Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe.
