The Executive Secretary of the Compostela Group of Universities (CGU), María Teresa Carballeira, took part in the Fifth Meeting of Managers of the Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe held in Huelva, which focused on the role of research on cultural routes and the transfer of this knowledge to society.

The Executive Secretary of the CGU and Professor of Administrative Law at the University of Santiago de Compostela, María Teresa Carballeira Rivera, participated in the Fifth Meeting of Managers of the Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe in Spain, held in Huelva from 23 to 25 March 2026.

The meeting, organised by the Spanish Ministry of Culture in the La Rábida area, brought together representatives of the European Institute of Cultural Routes, the Organization of Ibero-American States, Turespaña, the Provincial Council of Huelva, and managers of Spanish cultural routes, with the aim of exchanging experiences, sharing best practices, and highlighting the role of knowledge and research in the development of Cultural Routes.

During the sessions, the importance of academic and research networks as a basis for the sustainability and consolidation of cultural routes was emphasised. In this context, the role of the CGU as the only university network linked to a cultural route and its significant work in scientific support and the promotion of cultural routes was underlined.

Both organisers and participants described the meeting as highly positive, as it allowed for deeper exploration of the academic dimension and the exchange of initiatives. A proposal also emerged for a follow-up meeting under the auspices of the Organization of Ibero-American States, which is expected to take place in Huelva in June 2026.
