Carla Martins, President of the CGU, on stage alongside other speakers during FAUBAI 2026

The CGU President participated as an invited speaker at one of the leading forums on higher education internationalisation in the Americas.

The President of the Compostela Group of Universities (CGU), Carla Martins, participated as an invited speaker at the Annual Conference of the Brazilian Association for International Education (FAUBAI), held this year from 11 to 15 April in the city of Florianópolis (Brazil), and recognised as one of the leading forums in the Americas dedicated to the internationalisation of higher education.

This year’s edition is centred on the theme “Internationalisation for a Multipolar World” and addresses new global strategies for university cooperation, as well as the role of academic networks in an increasingly interconnected environment, an area in which the CGU has a well-established track record.

The President travelled to Brazil accompanied by the network’s Executive Secretary, María Teresa Carballeira Rivera, following an invitation from the Vice-Rector of São Paulo State University (UNESP) and President of FAUBAI, Celso Freire Junior, a member of the CGU Executive Committee.

Meeting of the GCU Executive Committee as part of FAUBAI

Within the framework of the Conference, the Executive Committee of the Compostela Group of Universities (CGU) is scheduled to meet on 16 April 2026 at the facilities of the Federal University of Santa Catarina. The meeting is supported by the host institution’s organisational team.

The holding of this meeting has been made possible thanks to the involvement of the Vice-Rectorate of São Paulo State University “Júlio de Mesquita Filho” (UNESP), led by Celso Freire Junior, President of the Brazilian Association for International Education (FAUBAI), who extended the formal invitation to the CGU to participate in the Conference and its associated activities.

A further step in international cooperation with the Americas

CGU’s participation in FAUBAI 2026 consolidates its role as a relevant actor in the global dialogue on higher education and opens new opportunities for collaboration with Latin American institutions and key countries across the continent. This presence in Brazil aligns with CGU’s strategic commitment to strengthening its engagement with the Americas, a priority set out in its Strategic Plan aimed at intensifying academic cooperation, expanding partnerships and reinforcing the network’s international projection.
