The Compostela Group of Universities (CGU) launches the CGU Volunteering with Heritage programme in Forests GAL.

The Compostela Group of Universities (CGU) is launching the CGU Volunteering with Heritage programme in Forests GAL, a new initiative aimed at promoting the natural and cultural rural heritage of Galicia (Spain) through intergenerational action.

This initiative fosters sustainability, heritage education and university cooperation, with a special focus on the natural areas of the municipality of Monfero, the Fragas do Eume, and nearby sites in the Lugo region. Volunteers will engage in awareness-raising, conservation and restoration actions related to the local environment, tourism, and agri-food heritage.

The programme is open to young people aged 18 to 30 and to adults over 55 who reside in Galicia. The field activities will take place from 23 September to 7 October 2025, and will include training workshops, interpretative walks, cultural events and environmental volunteering actions, all framed within the values of Galician heritage.

Through this programme, the CGU seeks not only to protect the natural environment, but also to strengthen community bonds, ecological awareness, and the social commitment of its participants. Furthermore, it offers a valuable opportunity to enrich academic and personal development through transformative experiences.

Applications are now open, through the CGU website, where detailed information about the call is available.
