Historia y objetivos

The history of the UAGro starts with the foundation of the “Colegio del Estado” in 1942. In 1950, it was established that education provided by it should have the character of a university, the Colegio then became a member of the National Association of Universities (ANUIES). In 1960, an educational model was required in order to respond to the socio- economic, political, and cultural problems of the State. On march 30 th , 1960 The Colegio del Estado legally became the Universidad de Guerrero. The Universidad de Guerrero was founded as an institution that would provide higher education in the areas of science, technology and culture throughout the state; following the precepts of its organic law. In October 1960, a student movement started. It demanded the autonomy of the University. In April 1962, it was approved and recognized. Finally, in 1963 the Organic Law No. 24 established its autonomy. The University’s objectives are: to provide services in upper secondary and higher education; conduct research; promote technological development and innovation; contribute to the development of the environment by extending its services; contribute to the study, preservation, growth and dissemination of culture; as well as linking with society to promote human rights and respond to its needs and demands of the social, economic, cultural and environmental order. Likewise, it will give priority to state problems, will attend to the most disadvantaged sectors and will contribute by itself or in coordination with other entities of the public, social and private sectors to national development.
