VOLUNTEER PROGRAMME ON THE CAMINO

UNIVERSITY WALKING COMMUNITY 2024

OBJECT

The University Walking Community programme was created with the aim of facilitating the university community to carry out volunteer actions on the Camino de Santiago and in public institutions. Its aim is to promote the values of cooperation, solidarity, diversity, tolerance and unity.

The University Walking Community 2024 edition aims to mobilise the community between 18 and 30 years of age of the Compostela Group of Universities (CGU) to carry out municipal and university volunteering actions linked to the Camino de Santiago in Spain.

TARGET PARTICIPANTS

People between 18 and 30 years old, who are linked to a GCU partner university by contractual, study or research links.

The programme is open to participants with accredited functional diversity, as long as this is compatible with the specific volunteering activities to be carried out at the destination.

COVERAGE

During the volunteer period, the volunteer will receive the following coverage:

Civil liability and accident insurance.
Accommodation.
Meals*.
Local transport around the volunteer activities.
Necessary means to carry out the volunteering action.
Participation in complementary leisure activities.

* On the days of arrival and return, only one meal will be covered.

IMPLEMENTATION DATES

The volunteering actions of the University Walking Community 2024 programme will be carried out continuously for 15 days from 1 August to 15 August 2024, both days included.

PLACE OF IMPLEMENTATION

The initial meeting point for all participants on the first day of the activity is Jaca, in the province of Huesca (Aragon, Spain). See map of Jaca location here.

Afterwards, the activity will take place preferably in one of the town halls located along the French Way as it passes through the Autonomous Community of Aragon (Spain).

TUTORSHIP

Each participant will be assigned a person in charge of organising the conditions of their stay, the assignment of their tasks and the monitoring of their volunteer activities.

RECONOCIMIENTO

The volunteer who carries out his/her activity satisfactorily will be recognised with a diploma.

MAIN ACTIVITY

To provide support to the agents and actors of the local community in matters related to assistance to pilgrims, information, organisation of activities, accompaniment, management of spaces and field work always related to environmental, socio-cultural and academic fields.
To collaborate with municipal entities, associations, universities and other entities linked to the aims described above.

COMPLEMENTARY ACTIVITY

Carrying out a volunteer course.
Voluntary participation in complementary cultural or recreational activities that are established.

PLACEMENTS

This call for applications has 15 places open to volunteers.

SUBMISSION OF APPLICATIONS

The deadline for submission of applications is 10 June 2024 (12.00 PM GMT).

Certification of affiliation with the GCU partner university in 2024.
Accreditation of Spanish or English language by means of a certificate. Candidates must prove their competence in the language in which they are not native speakers.
Copy of national identity card or passport.

– Optional documentation to be submitted:

Accreditation of previous experience in volunteering by means of a certificate, if applicable.
Proof of membership of associations or groups pursuing social or humanitarian interests, if applicable.
