What is HousErasmus+?

Compostela Group of Universitires participates as one of the Core Partners in the HousErasmus+ project. This initiative addresses an obstacle to mobility programmes: the lack of affordable accommodation for international students and trainees during their mobility period. The project is coordinated by Erasmus Student Network (ESN) and co-funded by the Education, Audiovisual and Culture Executive Agency of the European Commission. Specifically, this programme examines the obstacles faced by exchange students as one of the main beneficiaries of Erasmus+.

Objectives

To provide a comprehensive mapping of the national, regional and locally diverse situation for international student accommodation in the chosen European countries. In general, the accommodation market is determined by national legislation and often by regional and local policies. However, this project aims to take note of local factors, choose focus areas for study visits, carry out a more in-depth analysis and draft policy recommendations for the European level in terms of the best practices found.

Method

First an initial mapping and choice of focus areas, study visits and surveys are conducted and addressed to all the main actors involved contributing to concrete policy recommendations on how to improve the situation. All the discussed conclusions of this study in regional conferences are finally refined in a final conference in Brussels to disseminate and raise awareness of the case and to ensure an effective policy reform at European level to guarantee the competitivity and socio-economic diversity of a growing number of mobile citizens.
