The Compostela Group of Universities actively participated in the first Associated Partners Meeting of the European University of Well-being (EUniWell), held on 6 May 2025 at the Advanced Studies Centre of the University of Santiago de Compostela (USC).

This event, organised by USC within the framework of the eighth Rectors’ Assembly of the Alliance, brought together representatives from 16 associated institutions of the Consortium from different sectors and countries. Representing the Compostela Group of Universities was Professor Manuel Freire-Garabal, Professor of Pharmacology at the University of Santiago de Compostela and honorary member of the CGU.

The meeting focused on promoting collaboration among universities, hospitals, companies, and public and private organisations, aiming to establish synergies and advance sustainable cooperation around well-being. In his opening speech, the Rector of USC, Antonio López Díaz, emphasised the need to open universities to society, one of the main challenges facing higher education today. Meanwhile, Beatrix Busse, EUniWell’s Director of Development, highlighted the role of university alliances in strengthening social commitment beyond the academic sphere.

This meeting sets a precedent in EUniWell’s openness strategy and marks a step forward in the active involvement of associated institutions. The programme continued with the eighth Rectors’ Assembly and an institutional event celebrating Europe Day on 8 May, held at the Fonseca College.
