The International Telematic University UNINETTUNO presented in January the project University for Refugees at the United Nation headquarters in New York (EEUU).

The aim of this project is to facilitate the inclusion of the refugees in the society of the host countries by pledging the access to University by means of the new technologies. University for Refugees is a multilingual portal created with the objective of giving refugees and asylum seekers a chance to access for free UNINETTUNO academic programs. All programs are available in five languages (Arabic, English, Italian, French and Greek) via the platform of UNINETTUNO University.

To this day, 12.680 students have downloaded UNINETTUNO’s mobile app to learn Italian and 480 refugees and asylum seekers enrolled in the programs available on the portal University for Refugees.

This project was presented in the framework of the #JoinTogether Network Conference organised by the De Montfort University Leicester (United Kingdom). During the event, the Rector of UNINETTUNO, Prof. Maria Amata Garito, signed the declaration of membership to the global network #JoinTogether, supported by the organisation Academic Impact of the United Nations. This network brings together international universities engaged to pursue the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
