International Prize Grupo Compostela-Xunta de Galicia
The International Prize Grupo Compostela-Xunta de Galicia was established in 1996 further to the signature of an agreement between the Compostela Group of Universities and the Regional Ministry of Culture, Social Communication and Tourism of Galicia. This prize is awarded annually to an individual or institution that has stood out due to his work in favour of the European unity and the preservation of the cultural heritage of the Camino de Santiago and its values, which are a symbol and origin of the creation of Europe.
The jury of the international prize is chaired by the President of the Galician Regional government and each year it includes three authorities of the Galician government, from the Regional Ministries of Culture and Education. On the part of the Compostela Group of Universities (CGU), the President and the Rectors of three-member universities. Besides, the Executive Secretary of the CGU acts as secretary of the jury.
The Xunta de Galicia and the member universities of the CGU may present annually candidatures to this prize, which is endowed with a monetary prize of 6,000 euros. The prize-winner receives a golden shell, a symbol for centuries of the pilgrimage to Santiago and of the Compostela Group of Universities.
