Students from seven member universities of the Compostela Group of Universities start today the volunteer training course of the University Walking Community programme, organised jointly with the Asociación de Municipios del Camino de Santiago.
For the next two days, students will participate in a training course in Canfranc (Spain), in which they will learn the basic principles of volunteer work, philosophy of hospitality, the values of the Camino de Santiago and the French Route. From 15th July, they will carry out volunteer work in diverse hostels and information points located along the French Route in Spain.
Participants in this first period of the volunteer work will have the opportunity to live together with students from Anahuac Xalapa University (Spain), Pontifical Catholic University of Peru (Peru), Adam Mickiewicz University (Poland), University of Piura (Peru), University of Seville (Spain), University of Almeria (Spain) and University of Salamanca (Spain).
University Walking Community
The aim of University Walking Community is to facilitate volunteering on the Camino de Santiago for the university community and to promote the European values of cooperation, integration, diversity, tolerance and unity associated with this pilgrimage route.
The Compostela Group of Universities and the Asociación de Municipios del Camino de Santiago collaborate in the organisation of the pilot edition of this volunteer programme, in which students of member universities were invited to join.
