The opening ceremony of the International Meeting of Rectors on the Camino de Santiago, which will be held today in the CIEDUS building of the University of Santiago de Compostela, will bring together more than 30 institutional representatives of the governing bodies of 25 member universities of the Compostela Group of Universities, from nine European and American countries.

In the opening, which will begin at 15.30 hours, will participate the Regional Minister of Culture and Tourism of Galicia, Román Rodríguez; the president of the Compostela Group of Universities, Marek Kręglewski; the rector of the University of Santiago de Compostela, Antonio López.

This International Meeting of Rectors on the Camino de Santiago is organised by the Compostela Group of Universities in collaboration with the Xunta de Galicia, through the Regional Ministry of Culture and Tourismo. The programme of the event includes in its academic part activities such as round tables, working groups and presentations by experts such as the Head of Higher Education Unit of the European Commission, Vanessa Debiais-Sainton, and the Director-General High Commissioner Agenda 2030, Federico Buyolo.

The event will be complemented by cultural and academic visits to the town of A Coruña, tastings of Galician products and a tour of the Camino de Invierno in the surroundings of the Ribeira Sacra. On its last day, the Solemn Declaration of Rectors on the Camino de Santiago Ribeira Sacra will be signed in Chantada, an expression of the commitment of the universities and their willingness to work towards achieving the sustainable development goals in Higher Education and the European Universities initiative.
