The Compostela Group of Universities (CGU) and the University of Minho organise from 21 to 22 September the first online general assembly of our university network. In June, both institutions decide to move this event to the internet, to guarantee health safety and the continuity of the annual meeting of the network’s members.

The event will start with the meeting of CGU’s General Council, which will be followed by the awarding ceremonies of the CGU contests, born to recognise annually audiovisual and research talent within the network. The IX International video contest will award prizes to students from the universities of A Coruña (Spain) and Anahuac Xalapa (Mexico). Regarding the IV Research pitches contest, the prizes will be given to researchers from the universities of Pécs (Hungary) and A Coruña (Spain).

This opening day will close with the awarding ceremony of the International Prize Grupo Compostela-Xunta de Galicia, which can be followed live on the Youtube channel of the University of Minho. In its twenty-fourth edition, this award has gone to the musician and musicologist Carlos Villanueva Abelairas, of who the jury highlighted his “prolific career in the study of the Jacobean culture and the music linked to the Camino de Santiago, as well as his relevant contribution to the project of building the instruments of the Portico de la Gloria”.

On the second day, the debate will take centre stage during the VII Compostela Dialogues in Higher Education, in which academics and international experts will address issues related to the impact of the COVID-19 and sustainability in the university environment. Besides, on this day the CGU will present the report it has drawn up, following a survey among its partners, on the impact of the pandemic on higher education.
