Golden Pin

The Compostela Group of Universities’ Golden Pin is an expression of appreciation to those individuals that have left their mark on the Compostela Group of Universities. The awarding ceremony of the Golden Pin usually takes place during the general assemblies of the CGU.

Manuel Freire-Garabal Núñez

Manuel Freire-Garabal Núñez

Manuel Freire-Garabal Núñez was awarded the Golden Pin in 2004 at the X General Assembly of the Compostela Group of Universities, hosted by the University of Pecs.

Manuel Freire-Garabal Núñez is Professor of Pharmacology at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Santiago de Compostela. He had the idea of creating the Compostela Group of Universities and was one of the drivers of its constitution. Freire-Garabal is currently a member of the Executive Committee of the network.

 

Michael Cooper

Michael Cooper

Michael Cooper received this recognition in 2007 at the XIII General Assembly of the Compostela Group of Universities, organised by the University of Santiago de Compostela.

Michael Cooper, now retired, was Director of International Affairs at Karlstad University from 1990 until 2007, and beforehand, Lecturer in English at the same institution. President of the Compostela Group of Universities between 1999 and 2007, he leaded a team that provided great added value to the CGU’s activities.

Marc Richelle

Marc Richelle was awarded the Golden Pin in 2009. Professor emeritus, Chair of experimental Psychology at the Faculty of Psychology and Education Sciences, University of Liege. He was the first President of the CGU between 1995 and 1999, a strong promoter of the association.

Maurits van Rooijen

Maurits van Rooijen

Maurits van Rooijen received this recognition in 2018 at the XXIII General Assembly of the Compostela Group of Universities, hosted by the University of Pecs.

Maurits van Rooijen is System Rector at Global University Systems. President of the Compostela Group of Universities from 2005 to 2015 and founding member, he was awarded this honour for his faithful commitment and his work to increase the international projection of the CGU worldwide.

Isabel Lirola Delgado

Isabel Lirola Delgado

Isabel Lirola Delgado was awarded the Golden Pin in 2018 at the XXIII General Assembly of the Compostela Group of Universities, organised by the University of Pecs.

Isabel Lirola Delgado is Professor of International and European Law at the Faculty of Law of the University of Santiago de Compostela. The attribution of the Golden Pin came as a sign of appreciation and gratitude for her contribution to the networks’ fruitful development as Executive Secretary between 2012 and 2016.
